Nyale institute an organization that is advocating for sexually reproductive justice and legal abortion.

Has called upon the relevant authority to make sure that everyone is enjoying a happy sexually life, whether it leads to reproduction or not.

Nyale institute director Dr Godfrey Kangaude made the sentiments when commenting on the revelations that 849 young women and girls were treated at post – abortal clinic in Blantyre city alone this year.

Safe motherhood coordinator for Blantyre District health office (DHO) Ellida Bvutula revealed this during a stakeholders meeting in Blantyre recently.

A figure which other commentators suggested that they may be much higher as some they don’t seek medical assistance when they found themselves in such situation.

Kangaude observed that women who have financial power will seek a professional service provider while a young poor girl will use unsafe and dangerous ways, exposing themselves to injury even death at times.

” We are not interested in abortion but unseen issues behind any abortion.” said Kangaude.

He further said that very shortly, they will engage with the relevant authority, other stakeholders and the grass root regarding the same.

Kangaude also disclosed that together with some advocates they are supporting a court case, whereby a girl is asking a question of whether she can access abortion legally if she is raped.
