Police in Mchinji have launched a manhunt on unidentified criminals who have killed a certain man in the district last night.

Mchinji police publicist Limbani Mpinganjira said the deceased Jimu Phiri, aged 24, was on a motorcycle together with his girlfriend heading to Kamwendo trading centre before they got attacked by unknown thugs.

The woman according to Mpinganjira managed to escape and shouted for help from the surrounding villagers who came for her rescue.

The victim was rushed to Mchinji district hospital where he died upon arrival.

Phiri hails from Mlemba village, in Traditional Authority Mavwere in Mchinji district.
