Police in Chikwawa district have arrested a 23 year-old woman, Idah Chimanga, for suspecting her of killing her own baby girl by putting her in a water storage container and covering it.

Districts police spokesperson Dickson Matemba said this happened on 12 December this year in Sadulo village.

Matemba said the suspect was pregnant but on that day people were surprised to see her not pregnant again and people after seeing this they report her to the chief so that she should be questioned.

On the same day, people gathered at her house where they found the baby in her bedroom but in a water storage container.

According to the information obtained from the hospital, said the baby was a mature baby weighing 2.6 kilograms and police spokesperson said that the women who is currently receiving help at Chikwawa General Hospital and will appear in the court of law after receiving help.

Idah Chimanga is from the village of Hores in the area of senior chief Thomas in Thyolo district.
