Delegates to the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have tentatively set December 26,27 2023 for the elective conference.

Former President Peter Mutharika has since declared interest to contest again as President.

According to Mutharika, he want to contest again as President with an aim of kicking out of government the Tonse Alliance government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Mutharika has also allowed members to nominate his name for possible election and represent the party in the 2025 polls.
