Mchinji Court Acquits GVH Mpota and Peter Banda Over Chieftaincy Dispute

First Grade Magistrate’s court in Mchinji has acquitted GVH Mpota and Peter Banda who were arrested last week following a disagreement over chieftaincy and graveyard matters that ensued between GVH Mpota and GVH Benji the past two weeks.

People went on rampage demolishing houses and hacking others during the chaos that ensued amid the disagreements.

“There is nothing to argue on here. No reason for you to fight when you claim to call each other brothers. I cannot also send Mpota to prison since he is old and can hardly see,” First Grade Magistrate Yohane Nkhata told the court.

Mpota looked confused in his seat as the court rose following the verdict.

Mchinji District Commissioner Lucia Chidalengwa on 23, November, 2023 also wrote GVH Mpota alongside SGVH Chinkhota to relinquish their positions for new blood, reportedly, because of rudeness.
