In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy lost his life by drowning at a construction site in Supuni village, Chikwawa, associated with the Shire Valley Transformation Program.

The project coordinator, Engineer M. Chizalema, confirmed the heartbreaking event, citing that heavy rainfall led to water filling a section of the excavated construction area.

The boy had reportedly gone to the site with friends to play, resulting in the unfortunate drowning, which occurred around 5 pm on November 14, 2023.

In response to the incident, the Shire Valley Transformation Program has issued a statement urging the public to cooperate with officials, follow warning signs, and adhere to safety measures at the construction site to prevent future tragedies.
