Information reaching this publication indicates that Unemployed Nurses and Midwives together with unemployed Primary School Teachers will from November 9, 2023 hold vigils at Capitol Hill to force the Tonse Alliance government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to hire them.
The development follows a clearance from Lilongwe District Council and the Malawi Police.
Publicity Secretary for the Joint Unemployed Nurses and Midwives and Primary School Teachers grouping Lucius Gerrald has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Gerald, the aim of the vigils is to force government to permanently employ them.
“We will hold the vigils from 9th November up until our demands are attended to,” Gerrald said.
Almost 5000 Nurses and Midwives are currently unemployed while more than 10,000 Primary School Teachers (ipte 13 to 17) are unemployed.
