People in Mposa village in Machinga are homeless following the heavy rains

The number of people who are homeless following the flooding in Lingoni River in the area of senior chief Mposa in Machinga district has now reached 286.

According to the deputy chairman of the regional development committee, Falista Laston said this has come following the heavy rain that fell on Tuesday in the area, where 3 houses collapsed and 84 others are in water and are also at risk of collapsing at any time.

Laston said 72 men, 214 women and 49 children are now homeless and are being kept at a mosque, with goods and livestock such as goats, chicken, as well as food and farming equipment.

Meanwhile the office of Disaster Management has said that it will explain in details of the accident this afternoon.
