The English dictionary describes someone who can twist their body into shapes and positions that normal people cannot as a contortionist. This is probably what Felicity Thunyani is.
Going through her social media pages, it is clear that the young woman has a flexible body that she can twist into interesting and rare shapes and positions.
Thunyani shows off her flexibility
At 24, Thunyani is not a strange name in the entertainment circles. She is a well-known contortionist, simply known as a flexibility performing artist.
Felicity is famous for twisting her body in different amazing angles, which has caught the eyes of many people. Her ability to bend and twist comes naturally, but is perfected through practice and discipline.
Recently, she participated in the Times TV Malawi Got Talent show where she entertained fans with her astonishing body-twisting skills.
Most of her live sets during the competition gave her the spotlight as she trended on social media with many asking how it is possible for a human being to bend and twist into those shapes.
Many people flocked to her official Facebook and YouTube pages to catch a glimpse of her amazing and flexibility performing arts prowess through videos and pictures.
One of her fans, Felix Japawo, described Felicity as one of the talented performing artists who plays with her body in fascinating fashion.
“I supported her throughout the competition. And she is one of the gifted Malawians with a rare talent,” he said.
Commenting on the art, contortionism enthusiast Andrew Chimenya said it was refreshing to see a contortionist recognised as an artist as the discipline is not big since the country does not have many contortionists.
“It is an art which should be encouraged and celebrated just like music and drama. I am always in awe of such acts,” he said.
The Blantyre-based Felicity is a professional yoga instructor-cum-performing artist.
She said she began her journey in 2019.
Said Felicity: “I am a contortionist, simply known as a flexibility performing artist on the performing arts front. My journey as a yoga practitioner started in 2019 and I have been a yoga practitioner for four years and instructor for two years now.
“A fellow yoga instructor and fitness trainer inspired me to begin the yoga life to acquire necessary strength to support my flexibility.”
She is the first born in a family of three.
Felicity described yoga and gymnastics as important physical activities in the life of every person.
“People should do yoga to keep the mind calm, to be aware of their bodies and to have a healthy, flexible and strong body,” said the artist.
Asked about her future prospects. Felicity said:
“No one knows what the future holds, but I am working to be better than where I am today. My secret is that I work hard to be independent, resourceful and one of the reliable citizens in the society.”
Felicity urged people to enrol in her yoga classes, saying they will not regret their decision.
Felicity is a journalist who went through the corridors of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences.
