Thyolo Magistrate Court has ordered five men to spend one year and eight months in prison or pay K50, 000 each, after they were found guilty of assaulting a nurse at a major hospital in the district.

Presenting the facts of the case, police prosecutor, Felix Senzani said the men beat Nurse Finias Namwiyo on the night of 8 October 2023, when they arrived at the hospital with patients who had a car accident.

The five men who admitted to the crime are; Mr. Davie Zulu aged 28, Lifled Zombe aged 47, Davie Daniel Zulu aged 32, Weston Changadeya aged 28 and Gift Changadeya aged 40, all of them are from Nchiramwera in the district.

In the judgment, Magistrate Chinangwa said K40, 000 will be a compensation for the nurse and he blamed the men for beating the nurse while she was at work while there are effective plans to resolve the conflict.
