Centre for Alternatives for Victimised Women and Children (Cavwoc) has handed over 15 bicycles to youths from traditional authorities Nkhulambe and Nazombe in Phalombe District for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outreach programme.

Speaking yesterday on the sidelines of the donation, Cavwoc Girls Get Equal Project coordinator Tamara Chikopa said the bicycles will enable community-based distribution agents to take SRH messages and services to more beneficiaries.

She said the agents were failing to reach out to more youths due to mobility challenges.

“These young people cover long distances to reach their peers. So, the bicycles will make their job easy,” said Chikopa.

One of the beneficiaries, Regina Chidule, said the bicycles motivated her to provide SRH services to her peers in the district.

Phalombe District Health Office family planning coordinator  Ganizani Paul said Cavwoc was complementing government’s efforts to reach out to many youths with SRH services.

He said: “Some youths are shy to visit health facilities to access family planning services.

“That is why we are pleased with Cavwoc outreach initiative.”

The donation follows capacity building the organisation and the district’s health department provided to the youth in 2021.

With support from the Norwegian Government,Cavwoc is implementing Get Equal/Nzotheka Project in Mulanje, Phalombe and Lilongwe districts.
