Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda has bemoaned the tendency of some mayors and district council chairpersons who abuse their political powers by trying to usurp administrative powers.

He says politicians must differentiate between political and administrative powers, stressing, District Commissioners (DCs) and Chief Executive Officers are the controlling officers at district and city council level.

He is speaking at a Quarterly Coordination Meeting currently underway at Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu.

“Let’s differentiate between politics and administrative issues. You, councillors should support the controlling officers,” said Chimwendo Banda.
