Northern Region Police Commissioner Richard Luhanga has urged police officers to desist from partisan politics and corrupt practices to win public trust.
He said this on Friday at Northern Region Police Headquarters during a parade to devise strategies to manage traffic and fight crimes.
Luhanga said: “The burden of being ranked as most corrupt organisation in the country should now become history. Let us make a difference by being disciplined both on the road and in our offices.

“Malawi Police Service needs to embrace officers with sober mind and those who do not meddle in partisan politics.”
He also called on officers in the region to discharge their duties with integrity and impartiality to instil trust in people.
“We, however, should also not neglect our families. Let us maintain happy families as they have a huge bearing on our performance at work,” the commissioner said.
Luhanga encouraged police officers to improve themselves by going for further education.
“Education improves one’s performance effectiveness at workplace. It is also important to change our mindset to be branded professionals,” he said.
During the event, Luhanga unveiled Mabvuto M’bobo as the new deputy police commissioner.
He also urged police officers to support him so that he serves the country well.
The parade was attended by senior and junior officers from the regional headquarters.
