Goodall to be accorded State funeral

Government has said it is going to accord the departed politician and former minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe a State funeral in honour of his contribution to the country.

In an interview in Lilongwe yesterday, Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu, who is also the official government spokesperson, said Gondwe served Malawi with nobility; hence, deserves to be accorded such an honour.

He said: “The State President [Lazarus Chakwera] has directed that late Goodall Gondwe be accorded a funeral with full military honours.”

In a separate interview, the late Gondwe’s nephew, Komani Gondwe said the burial is scheduled for Sunday in Mzimba.

He said his uncle had been complaining of backache until his death, a development he believes is associated with old age.

“A pillar of our family has fallen. He was a well of wisdom and will be missed by the family. He would give counsel and guidance on matters of all kind about life. He has left a gap that will not be easy to fill,” he said. Meanwhile people are holding a vigil at the late Gondwe’s Area 10 residence in Lilongwe.
