Themuka Mkhwewu Elected Chairperson of Dedza District Council, Vows to Enhance Developmen

Councillor Themuka Mkhwewu is the new Chairperson for Dedza District Council.

The Council conducted elections following the expiry of outgoing office bearers’ one year-term.

Five councillors contested for the seat, but lady luck smiled at Mkhwewu, who got seven votes, followed by Joseph Kwenda with six votes, Isaac Ziyaya and Gift Balaka with two votes each and Stanley Manase with one vote.

Councillor Shyreen Gamulani will serve as the Vice Chairperson after amassing 10 votes. She defeated Joseph Kwenda and Numeri Kanjere who got seven and two votes, respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Mkhwewu promised to improve service delivery and enhance effectiveness in the implementation of development projects in the district.

Dedza District has 16 Ward Councillors, eight Constituencies and eight Traditional Authorities.
