Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Owen Chomanika has described the late Senior Chief Kapichi of Thyolo as a humble servant of the people.
He said this in his eulogy on Monday at Khonjeni Headquarters during the burial of the departed chief who died on Friday.
Chomanika said just like the family and everybody else, government was also saddened by his death.
He said: “We have lost a great person who has served the country and his area all his life.

“After retiring as a senior person in the Malawi Police Service, he would have chosen to stay in the city. However, he came to his village and took up chieftaincy.”
Chomanika also said the life of the late Kapichi was a lesson to everyone as he was humble and a servant of the people.
Senior Chief Chimaliro, who spoke on behalf of other chiefs in the district, said they lost a great leader as they relied on him for wisdom.
“We are great chiefs in our different areas because we used to consult him for guidance and wisdom. We have lost a pillar,” he said.
The late senior chief, real name Fyson Mpina, succumbed to high blood pressure and diabetes at the age of 79 at Malamulo Hospital in Thyolo.
He is survived by a wife, four children and four grandchildren.
Late Kapichi retired as a superintendent at Malawi Police and was installed as Traditional Authority Kapichi in 2004. He was elevated to Senior Chief Kapichi in 2018.
