A two-year-old girl in Mchinji, Malawi, tragically died after being run over by a car while playing near a gravel road.

The driver, identified as Clement Phiri, 27, hailing from Kamwendo Village, Traditional Authority Mlonyeni in Mchinji, was attempting a U-turn to quickly pick up the guardian of a patient admitted to Mchinji district hospital.

According to Mchinji Police Publicist, Limbani Mpinganjira said the impact caused the girl to sustain head injuries, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Mchinji Police have arrested Clement Phiri for further investigation into the incident.
