Defending champions FCB Nyasa Bullets yesterday rose to the top of the TNM Super League table despite playing out a goalless draw against Kamuzu Barracks (KB) at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
The People’s Team top the 16-team league on goal difference as they are tied on 21 points with second-placed Silver Strikers, but Bullets have played a game more.
Bullets have a plus 15 goal difference, four more than the Central Bankers.
Silver have a chance to reclaim the top spot when they host Karonga United this afternoon.
Pasuwa: We were up against a good side
The match was a balanced affair with both teams attacking with flair and fervor at times but they both stood firm in defence.
In a post-match interview, Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa said they were up against a good side.
He said: “It was a balanced game, the opposition played very well, we both didn’t create much chances.”
However, the Bullets gaffer had no kind words for the officiating personnel, saying they were denied two clear penalties.
Said Pasuwa: “We need fair play, I don’t know for how long we are going to be denied panalties.”
On his part, KB coach also said they were let down by officiation.
He said: “I think with an ounce of luck, we should have won this game.
“We had chances, but we were not composed in front of goal. All the same, it is a fair result.”
At Karonga Stadium, Chitipa United beat fellow newly-promoted side Bangwe All Stars 1-0. Gedion Sululu scored the lone goal after being set up by Rajab Nyirenda in the 14th minute.
Chitipa are fourth with 16 points from 10 matches while Bangwe are 14th with nine points from 10 matches.
At Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, Blue Eagles edged Mafco FC 1-0 courtesy of Richard Rapson’s 47th minute strike. Rapson was also named man-of-the-match.
Eagles are fifth with 15 points from 10 games whereas Mafco are 12th with 11 points from 10 matches
Red Lions and Civil Service (Civo) United played out a one-all draw at Balaka Stadium.
The Zomba-based Malawi Defence Force side are second from the bottom with eight points from 10 matches while Civo are 11th with 11 points from 10 games.
