FCB Nyasa Bullets midfielder Mike Mkwate will be out of action for the rest of the TNM Super League first round after suffering a tibiofibular fracture during the Castel Cup launch match against Silver Strikers at Bungu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The former Polokwane City midfielder was stretchered off in added-on time following a challenge from a Silver player in the area and he was replaced by Ephraim Kondowe.

Ruled out for eight weeks: Mkwate

Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said the player fractured both his lower leg bones and his right leg which will see him missing action for eight weeks.

The club’s assistant coach Peter Mponda said the injury is a blow to the club and the player who was relaunching his career at the People’s Team after returning from South Africa.

He said: “You saw how he mesmerised themidfield and it’s very unfortunate that we lost him to that awful injury. We hope to see him back in action soon.”

The 2018 TNM Super League Best Midfielder signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Polokwane City in February 2021.

However, the club loaned him to Bullets after Polokwane missed the deadline to register him before the closure of the South Africa transfer window.

Mkwate returned to South Africa in July 2021 to complete his two year stint, but fell from grace at the club which also has Malawian striker Khuda Myaba.

He, however, returned to Bullets in January this year after terminating his contract on mutual agreement.

The midfielder started his career at Surestream Academy in 2016 before the team rebranded to Wizards FC under former Bullets and Malawi Flames captain Mponda.

The midfielder helped the club win the Carlsberg Cup in 2017, before winning the TNM Super League in 2018 and 2019.
