The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has accused the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of ‘looting’ people’s lives by increasing tariffs on every commodity, failing to fulfill their campaign promises, worsening corruption in every sector mainly in Ministry Agriculture among others.
Speaking at a rally yesterday the party conducted at Chibavi Primary School ground, DPP Treasurer General Japie Mhango said Malawians elected drum- beaters who would harp their achievements based on external travels, sending their relatives to embassies, destroying economy through corruption, nepotism, raising tariffs on water and electricity thus making life and livelihood of those who voted for them to remain in abject poverty.
“This is worst government Malawians have voted in power since democracy. They are just “looting” people’s earnings through “deadly inflation” while making “cheap and arrogant claims” that they taking Malawians to Canaan while in reality it is only their relatives who are enjoying the national cake at the expense of poor Malawians.
“With deadly inflation within 4 years, MCP has looted the trust and earnings of poor Malawians who are now struggling to even buy a bag of fertilizer, packet sugar, Nima soap, while business people can not travel to abroad to buy goods because there is no forex in the country. And it shameful to hear that Reserve Bank is posting loses while Commercial Banks are busy making profits in billions. This is happening because president Chakwera lacks experience in running government machinery at top levels, said Jappie Mhango who is vying for DPP Vice President at the forth coming Convention.
Mhango further said the only “real achievement” of MCP government is increasing prices of basic needs for poor Malawians and has urged Malawians to get “angry” in 2025 and boot out what he called a corrupt government citing the looting that is happening at the Ministry of Agriculture where government has signed contracts with fish and oil company in a AIP fertilizer deal.
Mhango also called for unity in the party if it is to win in 2025.
“We cannot talk of winning in 2025 when we are busy with infighting. Malawians will only vote for a party that is mature and care for their plights hence a call for civility in the party as we go to convention soon, Jappie Mhango.
Several top DPP members spoke against MCP government which included party’s national youth director, Dyton Mussa among others while Mzomera Ngwira spoke of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika come back to solve the economic malaise that MCP government has created under their reckless leadership.
