The death toll from the Road accident involving Nyungwe FC from Karonga has risen to 25 following the death of another player Gaula Nyirenda yesterday.

According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) website, the deceased Nyirenda will be laid to rest today.

Meanwhile, FAM President Walter Nyamilandu Manda has on behalf of the Football fraternity sent a condolence message to the family of Nyirenda.

“We are in deep shock with the tragedy that has befallen us. We share the pain and agony that the Nyirenda family and all other families as well as community of Nyungwe are going through.

“We understand that the healing process will be hard for the affected families that have lost their loved ones and suffered fatal injuries,” said Nyamilandu Manda

He added: “The tragedy has caused untold suffering and inflicted a traumatic experience that will linger in our memories forever.  May the soul of Nyirenda and all our departed brothers and sisters rest in eternal peace.”

Nyungwe was involved in a car accident on their way back from a Northern Region Moto Division One League fixture against Chitipa Hammers on Saturday.
