Nine arrested for theft in Mzuzu

Police in Mzuzu is keeping in custody nine people for allegedly found with metal bars suspected to have been stolen from Mzuzu civic offices construction site.

Assistant Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Mercy Chitonde has confirmed the development.

According to Chitonde, the midnight of May 29, 2023, Police received a tip of a motor vehicle registration number BZ 9399 transporting metal bars believed to have been unlawfully obtained from the site.

Chitonde continue saying that following the tip off, police managed to arrest the said eight guards and Mustafa Ali who claimed that he bought fifty nine metal bars valued at over K2, 400,000 from the guards.

Meanwhile Police have seized the vehicle and the metal bars and the suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges.
