Three Arrested in Blantyre for Possessing K5, 000 Counterfeit Banknotes

lice in Blantyre have apprehended three individuals on suspicion of possessing counterfeit K5,000 banknotes, amounting to K40,000.

The Southwest region police deputy spokesperson, Beatrice Mikuwa, stated that the suspects were found in possession of a laptop, printer, and cellphones, believed to have been used in the production of the counterfeit currency.

The incident unfolded on Monday when the suspects attempted to deposit the counterfeit money at a mobile money agent located in the Chitawira area. However, the astute agent grew suspicious of the banknotes’ authenticity and promptly notified the patrolling police officers.

The individuals arrested have been identified as Ishmael Ackim from Machinjiri, Enock Likanga Chirwa from Ntcheu, and Vinkula Kavwenje from Ntchisi, according to the police report.
