Wanderers players join Flames camp

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have released their six players to join the Flames camp at Mpira House in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.

The Nomads last week refused to release their players, namely William Thole, Stanley Sanudi, Lawrence Chaziya, Misheck Botomani, Christopher Kumwembe, Gaddie Chirwa and Mphatso Kamanga.

However, the Flames team manager James Sangala in an interview yesterday said the Nomads players joined the rest of the squad yesterday.

He said: “We are only remaining with two Blue Eagles players, namely Brighton Munthali and Jacob Robert. Their team was in the Northern Region where they played Moyale Barracks on Sunday.”

Last week, Wanderers coach Mark Harrison argued that he wanted to be with his players ahead of their Saturday TNM Super League match against Chitipa United at Kamuzu Stadium. The Nomads lost 1-0, their first defeat for the season.

Wanderers chief executive officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira in an interview yesterday confirmed that their players were now with the national team.

Meanwhile, Flames interim coach Patrick Mabedi thanked the clubs for releasing the players despite the camp falling outside Fifa dates.

The Flames are preparing for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Ethiopia to be played in Mozambique since the Ethiopians’ stadiums are not certified by Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

The Flames will also play an international friendly match against the Mozambique Mambas before the Afcon qualifier.
