Various faith groups in the Southern Region have lauded Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Kondwani Nankhumwa for offering various reconstruction materials for the churches and mosques that were devastated by cyclone Freddy in early this year.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative at Phalombe Secondary School on Saturday, May 28, 2023, Chairperson of the Initiative Reverend Collins Maganga of the Blantyre CCAP Synod and Sheik Sitolo Chairperson of Phaombe Muslim Association, who also represented the Muslim Association of Malawi(MAM), said it is worthy to hail Nankhumwa for helping the faith community in rebuilding their prayer houses after the floods hammered down some of the churches and mosques in the country and reduced them to giant piles of rubble. Cyclone Freddy killed over 1,000 and many others are still uncounted for.
