Police have confirmed that efforts to trace a woman who allegedly abandoned a one-month-old baby girl at Tengani camp stage in Nsanje district on May 22, 2023, are ongoing.

The baby is currently being cared for at Nsanje District Hospital.

According the police spokesperson in Nsanje, Sub Inspector Agnes Zalakoma, the incident was reported by Mercy Kabudula, who boarded a minibus with the suspect at Ruo in Mulanje.

At Tengani camp stage, the suspect requested Kabudula to hold the baby while she went to use the restroom, but she never returned.
