Police in Nsanje have arrested a 48-year-old man suspected to have forged and used the forged bank notes.
Nsanje Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Agnes Zalakoma has identified the suspect as Charles Kuleti.
According Zalakoma, the suspect committed the offense on Thursday, May 19 2023 at Nsanje Trading Center.
It is reported that information was received by police that the suspect was using fake bank notes to make Airtel Money transactions at an agent.
Upon receipt of the matter, police moved in swiftly and arrested the suspect who was found with K5000.00 forged bank notes amounting to K250,000.00.
After being arrested, the suspect led the team to his accomplice (name witheld) to be the one who gave him the forged bank notes but he was not found.
The wife to his accomplice escaped to unknown place after noticing the presence of police officers.
Later, police conducted a search in the house of the suspect’s accomplice where they found K2000.00 notes amounting to K888,000.00, K5000.00 notes amounting to K920,000, forged MSCE certificates and a machine used to print out the cash and seizure has been made.
Kuleti will appear before court soon to answer a charge of forgery as investigations to arrest his accomplice is underway.
Charles Kuleti comes from Nthukuso Village in Traditional Authority Malemia in Nsanje.
