Councilor’s Child Abduction Case Adjourned as Medical Tests Reveal No Pregnancy

Mchinji First Grade Magistrate Court has recently adjourned the case involving Councilor Harris Chikoti, who stands accused of child abduction and unlawfully supplying instruments for the purpose of procuring miscarriage.

The court hearing, which took place on [date], has now been postponed until June 23 of this year.

According to the court proceedings, Chikoti, a 52-year-old councilor representing Kapiri Ward, allegedly committed the crime in September of last year.

It was claimed that during this time, he unlawfully took a girl, who was allegedly pregnant, to Matutu village without the consent of her parents.

During the hearing, the second state witness, Edward Jere, a medical practitioner, testified before the court. Jere informed the court that medical tests conducted on the girl revealed that she was not pregnant.

Instead, it was discovered that she had only experienced fears and anxiety after missing her menstruation period around the time of the alleged incident.
