In a troubling case, a 39-year-old man named Kondwani Chitukula has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the heinous crime of defiling his 9-year-old granddaughter.

The Principal Resident Magistrate, Rodrick Michongwe, delivered the verdict after finding Chitukula guilty of committing the offense between January and February of this year while the victim was staying with him and his wife in Lilongwe.

During the court proceedings, the victim pleaded for leniency, highlighting that Chitukula was a first-time offender.

However, the presiding Magistrate dismissed these mitigating factors, recognizing the severity of the offense, which carries a potential life sentence.

Consequently, Chitukula was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for his despicable actions.
