Mzuzu city council has called on government to consider bailing them out of the continuous accumulations of debts affecting the council.
This comes as the council officials appeared before public accounts committee of parliament In order to enquire on the challenges affecting the council
According to Chief executive officer for Mzuzu council Gomezgani Nyasulu, the council is failing to conduct some of its tasks due to unavailability of enough funds within the institution which is a result of poor revenue collection within the council
Nyasulu said government should also revise local government act In order to empower the council to easily collect revenue from its stakeholders.
Nyasulu added on urging government to map the way forward on construction of Mzuzu In order to help revenue collection within the council and improving its operations.
Commenting on the matter, Mark Botomani chairperson for parliamentary committee on public accounts, says councils should learn to utilize the available resources inorder to address some of the challenges affecting the councils across the country
