Former FCB Nyasa Bullets striker Babatunde Adepoje on Sunday scored his first goal for his South African side Venda Football Academy in the Motsepe Football Championship.

Babatunde celebrates his goal during the match

Babatunde said in an interview he was glad to finally score after an eight-match goal drought since joining the club from Bullets.

He said: “This is the first of many to come. I am happy to get my first goal. This a new chapter. Now let’s finish the season stronger.”

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive member, Patrick Seleman in a post on Facebook applauded Babatunde for ending the goal drought.

He said: “Congratulations for the first goal. We wish him all the best.”

Venda were previously playing in the South Africa Football Association Second Division.

They moved to the second tier Motsepe Football Championship at the start of the 2021-22 season after businessperson Robinson Ramaite bought the franchise from Cape Umoya United.

They are now on position 11 in the 16-team league and face relegated Black Leopards in their last fixture on Sunday.

Babatunde impressed the South African side after he won the 2022 TNM Super League Golden Boot with 18 goals.

The Golden Boot was the third accolade for Babatunde, who also won the 2022 FDH Bank Cup topscorers award as well as the 2021 Airtel Top 8 Golden Boot.
