UDF President Liliani Patel pulls out of Presidential race

Member of Parliament for Mangochi South Lilian Patel who is also Acting President for the United Democratic Front (UDF) has said will not contest as President at the party’s elective conference.

Patel revealed this during a rally organized by the party at at St August 3 Primary School Ground in Mangochi to commemorate its 30 years anniversary.

In her speech, UDF Acting President said that she is satisfied with her current post as MP for Mangochi South.

“I will not contest for the post of UDF Presidency at the elective conference. I have served this country on various post and its time for me to leave for others. Let me also say this that i will not support any candidate at the convention,” said Patel.

Patel also challenged people who want to take over the reins of power from her to wait until the party holds its convention.

She said she is not clinging to the party’s presidency as some people are speculating.

“Tiyeni tisiye mabodza timange chipani, amene mukufuna mpandowu mudikire ku convention,” she said without elaborating.

Meanwhile, former UDF President Atupele Muluzi has hinted that he will contest as President at the convention.
