Ten members of the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) are expected to form part of the Commonwealth parade in London, United Kingdom (UK) on Saturday when the Sovereign takes the coronation Oath as Head of the State of the UK.
According to a press statement released by the British High Commission in Lilongwe on Friday, MDF soldiers are, upon satisfying rehearsing sessions throughout this week, expected to join their colleagues from UK and other Commonwealth Nations in the commemoration of the historic event.
British High Commissioner to Malawi, Fiona Ritchie expressed gratitude over the news saying it is a proud moment to have Malawi represented at the coronation by both President Chakwera and the First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera, along with the members of the MDF.
“The UK and Malawi have enjoyed a long standing defense partnership and the participation by the MDF troops in the coronation of the UK’s new Commander-in-Chief is a huge honor,” she said.
Leader of the Malawi Troops at the Coronation, Major Thokozani Moffat said it is certainly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him and all members of the MDF to parade in the streets of London on the day His Majesty is being sworn in.
