Lilongwe’s Crazmatic School shines with Sports Day

Lilongwe-based Crazmatic international primary school on Labour Day held a sports day as one way of revamping Physical Education (PE) at the school which is now a compulsory subject as recently directed by the Ministry of Education.

Previously, PE was an elective subjective in all schools based on then government policy direction.

Situation in New Shire, Area 49, the school’s management had spiced up the day by inviting parents and guardians to the learners who also participated in various sporting activities lined up by the school.

The school’s director Joseph Patel said they decided to arrange such a day as a way of showing pupils as well as their parents the importance of sports to a person’s physical health.

“As a school we need to give career guidance to the learners as some would get white collar jobs while others would earn their living through various sporting discipline like football, netball, boxing, lawn tennis, basketball, and athletic,” said Patel.

He also described sports as a crucial element of a student’s growth and development.

One of the parents Stella Chiphazi hailed the school for organizing such a day, stating that sports is also key in the development of both mental and physical fitness to every individuals including children.

“Through participation in sports and games, students gain various skills, experience and confidence that are helpful for developing their personality and that is what we have witnessed today,” she said.

Some of the activities that were organized include relay race, running competition, potato race, egg race, sack race, chair scrambling competition, water race, and hit-the-target competition. Winners in various categories received medals and other prizes in kind.
