Information reaching this publication indicates that a family in Thyolo, identified as the Ponderani family, have closed down the Malamulo Mission guesthouse and expelled foreign guests from the premises due to a land dispute.

According to a family member, Gift Ponderani, the guesthouse was built on their family’s land as per the land demarcation survey conducted in 2018.

The family has been in talks with Malamulo Mission to receive compensation for the land, but nothing has been done despite an agreement made during a meeting last month.

As a result, the family has taken matters into their own hands by occupying the land, farming and even cutting down trees.

Malamulo Mission and the police have not yet commented on the issue.
