Police arrest driver after deadly overnight hit-and-run crash in Kasungu

Police in Kasungu District have finally arrested a driver of an abnormal load truck which allegedly caused death of 25-year-old Steven Kamowa on Sunday night.

Spokesperson for Kasungu Police, Joseph Kachikho has identified the suspect as Manuel Zakaliya.

According to police, Zakaliya on the said date around 9: PM was driving an abnormal truck freight liner registration BM 3669/NB 5438 whilst carrying an excavator on its low bed carried an excavator from the direction of Kasungu heading towards Lilongwe.

Kachikho says part of the excavator hit off side part of the Toyota Hilux which Kamowa was driving killing him on the spot at Chinkhoma Trading Centre in the district.

zakaliya abandoned the victim and fled to unknown destination until on April 18, 2023 when he surrendered himself to Bua Police Unit.

The suspect is will soon appear before court of law answering a charge of causing death by reckless driving

Manuel Zakaliya is 32 years old hails from Malembe Village in Traditional Authority Chitukula In Lilongwe District.
