Government has increased sitting allowances for boards under statutory corporations by 100 percent, effective 1st April.
This means that Board members who were receiving K50,000 as sitting allowance, will now be getting K100,000 per sitting.
Comptroller of Statutory Corporations Peter Simbani says the government has also increased the boards’ honorarium with an average of 50 percent, meaning boards that were receiving K700,000 per annum, will now be getting slightly above K1,000,000.
Sumbani has revealed this in an interview on the sidelines of a meeting for board chairpersons of Statutory Corporations, which was held in Mangochi, to review the performance of the Corporations in the country.
He further says that government is expecting that most of the statutory corporations will start remitting returns to government in the form of surplus.
