For years, music lovers have been entertained by one of the most unique voices on the local music scene, Temwah.
The songstress has collaborated with different artists and has also experimented with different music genres. From rap, jazz to amapiano, she has tried it all and excelled.
After years in the artistic wilderness, Temwah has dropped her first studio album Family and Friends.
But who is Temwah?
The beautiful songstress is a Malawian professional songwriter and singer.
“I started music at a very tender age of 12, but made a first rise in 2017 after releasing an Afro beat song song Malawi Zakwathu,” she said.
Temwah has always had the dream to be a music superstar.
“I have had it in me since I was young. My father thought I was going to be Miss Malawi, but well, I ended up not being active in the modelling industry,” said the singer.
The musician said instead of being in the modelling industry, she dwelled more in the music and fashion industries.
“Being a girl child, I was criticised by family members because they thought I would not complete my education. Some thought I would go astray, but my hard working spirit and determination saw me finishing my education and getting my seat in the music industry too,” said Temwah.
The journey in music
She said the journey to navigate in the music industry was not the easiest.
“I was very young when I joined the industry. I didn’t have money to pay for my studio sessions so most of the times I would just go to the studio, set and watch and learn,” Temwah said.
The artist at times would wait for hours, hoping a recording artist would need a female artist’s voice so that she could jump at the opportunity.
“It wasn’t easy, but it was exciting. Now, I have a name in the industry and I can say I am reaping the fruits of what I planted,” she said.
Musical identity
Temwah has been changing genres and music lovers often wonder if she is struggling to find her niche.
“My switching of music genres has been helpful and exciting. It has allowed me to know what I am capable of doing. That boosted my confidence in my craft that I can jump on several beats without problems,” she said.
Temwah said sampling and experimenting various genres has also made her to be versatile.

“People now identify me as an Afro-piano artist, but also as an Afro jazz musician,” she said.
New album
Temwah said she took long to release her debut album to produce the best.
“The album dropped yesterday and it is called Family and Friends. I am excited and proud of myself for this big milestone. It took me my entire career to come up with this masterpiece,” she said.
In a separate interview, her jazz collaborator Lawi described Temwa as a gifted artist.
“Temwah has the perfect voice. She is very talented and unique,” he said.
Family and Friends has come with Afro beat, Afro jazz, Amapiano and R ‘n’ B. Temwah has also collaborated with Lawi, Genii Blakk and Leumas. Her CD is now out and selling at K10 000 per copy, but it is also available online.
