Concern Worldwide has donated K30 million worth of relief items to 500 Cyclone Freddy survivors at Bangula Evacuation Camp in Nsanje District.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Concern Worldwide area manager responsible for Southern Region Tommy Chimpanzi said they supported survivors to enable them stay at the camp.

He said: “We are reaching out to 500 households with mosquito nets, plastic paper sheet, pails, plates, cups, blankets, soap and waterguard.

“These people lost everything to the disaster. So, these items will help them during their stay at the camp.”

Survivors receive relief items

Group village head Kalonga of Traditional Authority Mlolo thanked the organisation for the gesture, saying the

 survivors had no blankets.

“As we appreciate this support, I appeal to other well- wishers to give the people food because since they arrived at the camp, only the council through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs and Kuchene Women Group support the camp,” she said.

Kalonga also asked for more tents as some people were sleeping in the open.

A survivor Zanelo Ephraim from Kaleso Village also said they need food urgently.

“We need food to be strong, especially for children and breastfeeding mothers,” she said.
