KHATO CIVILS AND ZAMBEZI ENGINEERING DONATES 1OO MILLION KWACHA TO CYCLONE FREDDY VICTIMS

Khato Civils Pty Limited and South Zambezi Engineering Services have jointly donated K100 million to people affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

In his remarks during a cheque presentation ceremony in Lilongwe, Country’s Director for Khato Civils Ashan Simbi Phiri said the two companies are greatly concerned by devastating effects of the cyclone.

Phiri said that they do realize the importance of being emotionally connected to the affected people in some districts of the southern region of Malawi and they thought it wise to make this donation as support towards alleviating their challenges.

On his part, Deputy Director of response for Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), Fyawupi Mwafongo commended the two companies for the gesture, saying it will go a long way in assisting the affected people.

Mwafongo added that on behalf of the Commissioner for DoDMA , they appreciate the donation  in responding to the State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s appeal for assistance. The donation has come at a right time when the department and partners are working tirelessly in addressing the needs of the affected people through the provision of shelter, food and other necessities,” said Mwafongo.

Mwafongo further called upon companies, organizations and individuals of goodwill to emulate Khato Civils and Zambezi Engineering’s gesture.

Meanwhile, as of Wednesday noon, cumulatively, Tropical Cyclone Freddy has induced flooding, strong winds and mudslides that has displaced 19,676 households (approximately 88,312 people) with 165 camps set to accommodate the displaced. The death toll rose from 190 to 225 with 707 injured and 41 reported missing.
