COURT IN MANGOCHI SLAPPED TWO MEN TO 5 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR BURGLARY AND THEFT

Second Grade Magistrate Court in Mangochi has sentenced two men to five years and five months imprisonment for stealing.

The two are identified as Master Taliya aged 27 and Cassim John aged 28 who store motorcycle batteries belonging to Yusuf Abasi.

Mangochi Police Station Prosecutor Shadreck Wisiki, told the court that the convicts were charged with two counts of burglary contrary to Section 309 (a) and theft which contravenes Section 278 (1) of the penal code.

However, t, convicted the two after pleaded them guilty to charges they were answering.

In his ruling, Magistrate Chikalimba condemned the behavior of Taliya and his accomplice as it is a setback to people’s efforts to develop.

Master Taliya and Cassim John sentenced each to 66 months imprisonment with hard labour for the first count of burglary and 21 months for the second count of theft and the sentences will run concurrently starting from the day of arrest.
