Last evening, students at Matandani Secondary School in Neno district went on a rampage, damaging school property over alleged maladministration.
The students claimed that the school management was providing a poor diet and failed to procure hostel cleaning materials such as buckets, mops, and others, despite several pleas.
A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the masterminds behind the rampage were students who were being asked to leave the campus for failing to settle outstanding school fee balances. Additionally, others were expected to appear before a school disciplinary committee.
The students’ frustration had apparently been building up for some time, and it reached a boiling point on the evening of the rampage. The police arrived at the school late, after the students had already damaged school property.
The school administration is yet to make a statement about the incident.
