Archbishop George Tambala closes Namitembo Catholic Church in Zomba

Archbishop Desmond Tambala has indefinitely closed down Namitembo Catholic Church under Namitembo Catholic Parish in Zomba due to disagreements between a section of it’s Christian faithful’s and priests over liturgy contributions and it’s usage.

This has been confirmed in a letter addressed to congregants and priests seen by this publication dated February 23, 2023.

In the letter Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese, Archbishop George Tambala said on Wednesday, a group of the Christians blocked Ash Wednesday prayer celebrations which marked the start of season of lent, hence the decision.

Tambala said the acts by the members of the church is against the laws of the Catholic Church.

The Archbishop has also dissolved all positions at the church with immediate effect.
