Man handed 2 years jail sentence for attempting sell his brother at Mk7 million

The Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe on Wednesday sentenced 19-year-old Amos Dakileni to two years imprisonment for offering his biological brother for sale to a businessman at K7 million.

Police arrested the convict on February 3 2023 at Bunda Trading Center in Lilongwe following a tip from the businessman Peterson Nachanje.

The convict was charged with disposing a person as a slave contrary to Section 267 of the Penal Code.

One of the police prosecutor’s Louis Makiyi told the press that the convict informed the court that he attempted to sale his brother identified as Dona because of economic hardships.

According to the prosecutor, the convict demanded upfront payment of K2 million from the businessman but was not given.

Said Makiyi: ” He first pleaded guilty but later changed his plea to not guilty. The State paraded three witnesses who included the businessman and a police officer who investigated the matter.”

The convict hails from Chatenga village T/A Chadza in Lilongwe.
