‘ADMARC DEPORTS TO RE-OPEN SOON’-KAWALE

Minister of Agriculture sam Kawale  has confirmed that trucks are ready to start ferrying maize from Lilongwe depot to other regions in redness for the re-opening of Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC).

Kawale said that his ministry has managed to open  some depots by yesterday (Monday) including in Rumphi  and they going to open more in due course.

Kawale said this when he was responding to a query raised by Chitipa South legislator Wellan Chilenga who wanted to know when Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) will open its deports as people in the country are stricken with hunger despite the country having ADMARCs which were meant to provide maize without hitches.

Chilenga said the ministry promised to open ADMARC depots in December a thing which did not happened and authorities have been mum on the matter.

In his response, Kawale indicated that Maize which was under collateral at NBS Bank is now under SGR meaning ADMARC has started drawing the remaining 50 thousand metric tonnes available which is good for human consumption to various depots in the country.

According to Kawale people should know that the maize prices at ADMARC has been maintained at k300 per kilogramme.

However, Some local trader are selling maize grains at k750 per kilogram in various districts of the country.
