A 22-year-old woman from Kalundu View Compound in Shikoswe area of Kafue has been arrested by the police for allegedly dumping her newborn baby in the bush.

The woman, identified as Oyice Hangoma, was taken into custody on Thursday, February 9, 2023, following a report from community members.

According to Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Dany Mwale, Hangoma’s elder sister confirmed to the police that her sister was pregnant.

However, on February 7, 2023, she was told by Hangoma that she had suffered a miscarriage. The police were able to apprehend Hangoma the following day at 11:00 hours.

The police are investigating the matter and the suspect is currently being held in police custody.
