Legal battle over ACB Director General heats up with government appeal

The government of Malawi has issued an order to private practice lawyers George Jivason Kadzipatike and Chancy Gondwe to appeal a recent judgment by Justice Mike Tembo.

The ruling, made in the High Court in Blantyre, dismissed the government’s application to lift an injunction obtained by the Malawi Law Society (MLS).

The injunction barred the government from interdicting the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Martha Chizuma, and saved her from facing criminal prosecution.

In response to the appeal, Chrispine Ngunde, the Honorary Secretary of MLS, stated that the organization would do everything in its power to ensure that justice prevails in the matter.

Kadzipatike confirmed the government’s plans to appeal the judgment, saying that the preparation of the necessary papers was already underway.
