MP Yona Mkandawire relocates to opposition in Parliament over Chizuma’s interdiction

Member of Parliament (MP) for Rumphi West Yona Adada Wiza Mkandawire has said he will relocate to the opposition benches in the August House following the interdiction of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma.

Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba interdicted Chizuma on Wednesday over what she called a criminal case which the ACB czar is answering.

Chizuma’s interdiction has attracted strong condemnation from all corners with others accusing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership of losing a plot in the fight against corruption in the country.

In a statement seen by this publication Mkandawire claimed that he has been instructed by his constituency to relocate to Opposition independent side.

“I write to inform all members on this forum that my constituency Rumphi West after hearing that Gvt has decided to suspend Martha Chizuma which is ironically meaning she Is fired I have been told to move from independent Gvt side to Opposition independent side , tomorrow will submit my request to the speaker to allocate me a seat to opposition independent side,” wrote Mkandawire.

Meanwhile, Legal Affairs Committee Chairperson Peter Dimba has also resigned from the post over the matter.
