A First Grade Magistrates court in Nkhotakota District found Fisher Ngwira, 28, guilty of endangering the lives of passengers traveling by road.
The offense, which is contrary to section 237(E) of the Penal Code, occurred on January 19 when Ngwira was driving a 2-ton motor vehicle carrying 14 passengers and bales of second-hand clothes on top.
The prosecutor, Thokozani Juziwell, sought a stiff penalty for the convict’s dangerous actions.
The court ordered Ngwira to pay a fine of k150, 000 or serve a 9-month jail term.
It is reported that Ngwira has paid the fine.
