Nation Publications Limited (NPL) journalist Pledge Jali won the sports category accolade at the Innobuild Media awards ceremony in Lilongwe yesterday, whose prize is a plot measuring 15 by 30 metres.

The awards are presented to journalists who exposed locally-owned company Innobuild’s role in the social-economic development of the country.

Jali’s winning story was titled Chitipa United are 2022 Simso/Innobuild Premier League champions.

“The reporter had mentioned Innobuild and its role in the league and he had also written a number of stories that publicised the company in a good way,” said Aubrey Chikungwa, Misa Malawi national coordinator, who presided over the awards ceremony.

Jali: I am humbled

In his reaction, Jali said: “I am humbled. It feels good to be recognised in that way for your work. I thank Innobuild for going back to individuals that are doing something to inform the public about the company existence.

“This is something they should keep doing. NPL deserves a mention for the support which has helped my name to be spotted by Innobuild. I look forward to claim more awards.”

Times Group’s Chris Loka won the print category while Benard Mwanza of Luntha Television scooped the electronic gong.

Malawi Wathu online publication’s journalist Noel Mkwaila was named the best online journalist. All the winners received plots.

Jonathan Billy Chiotcha, chief executive officer of Nasi Holdings, who own Nasi Enterprise and Innobuild Trading, among other firms, said the awards are a recognition of the journalists’ tireless work.

“Innobuild is located in physically limited places. But it is known across the nation because of the media. So, this is an appreciation to that tremendous work,” he said.
